Hello everyone,
I'm from Buenos Aires (Argentina); I've recently made a 10' minutes short film based on a book by an English writer.
A friend of mine from England has done the music and he is also a book publisher. He had the idea of making a DVD edition of the movie there in England in order to sell it. But, of course, since he previously only published books, he doens't know much about DVDs publishing.
The idea is to press from 100 to 200 DVDs... but what I wanted to ask you is if you can recommend me places in which they press DVDs in the U.K. in a pro fashion and with a good price (i.e, cheap).
Here's some technical info that may help:
- We want to make a Beta tape to DVD transfer (OR a DVD to DVD transfer).
-We do not want to press DVD-R, but *real* DVDs.
-The movie is 10 minutes long.
-We want the DVDs to be "All zones" playable.
If anyone knows places in the U.K. in which they do this stuff in a pro fashion and without making you pay a fortune, please tell me about them.
Blessings,
Kzwleh

Re: DVD pressing in the U.K.
Sat, January 10, 2004 - 12:08 PMHi!
Pressing DVD's is cheaper after about 250 DVD's. The pressed ones have minimal compatibility problems with players, especially the older players. You might contact Craig Baldwin at Artists' Television Access in San Francisco. He is starting a small release DVD film art publishing business. You should be able to find how to reach them with a web search. Under 250, the DVD writers are cheaper, but take a long time to write and they have more compatibility problems. To master the DVD from video, there are a huge number of settings in the DVD authoring program - that's where it's useful to have someone who has done it before. For mastering software, Apple's DVD Studio Pro 2 has the guts of Spruce authoring system that used to cost $30K before Apple bought them. At 10 minutes, you shouldn't need to worry much about efficient compression. You might want to be sure the color comes out as you envision. Good luck with your project!

It seems that that at the same time I was asking this question, my Publisher in the U.K. was already solving the problem in the U.K... It seems that he has found a place in the U.K. where they do want we needed at a reasonable cost.
