so can anyone think of something worthwhile to talk about? a site that everyone should (and prolly does ) know about is:
www.hi-beam.net/cgi-bin/flicker.pl
any other must-visit URL's we should all know about? list them in thread.
i am personally interested in any avant-garde film linx, specially structural / post-structural film and / or continental surrealism and /or non-narrative theory. (my dirty secret is my love affair with early video history)

Re: topics and URL
Thu, November 20, 2003 - 1:30 PMHey have you heard about Sony's new 'eye toy'? Yes, listings for the 'eye toy' have appeared embedded within my spam, introduced by the seemingly innocent subject heading 'best of 2003 holiday buying guide' (who can resist clicking on those?)
sony.gamerfeed.com/gf/news/4680/
Production of the 'eye toy' is going up, due to its immense popularity in europe.
So, it looks like responsive immersive video installations have been incorporated. not that this is an unforseen development...

Re: topics and URL
Thu, November 20, 2003 - 7:00 AMThe only issue I find with this site is, if your interest is primarily video, the discussion tends to be mainly centered around film (film stock, cameras, technique, etc.). It is great, however, for things like film-festival calls for entries and general discussion of film/video aesthetics.
That being said, I still think it's worthwhile to join the discussion list. -

Re: topics and URL
Sun, November 23, 2003 - 2:43 AMI have been on the FRAMEWORKS discussion list for years. Overall it's a good list, but there is a high proportion of academics who have sticks up their butts.
There are a few "film fascists" on there, but generally speaking no one pays attention to that bullshit rule about "no video art." In fact, there are always lame off topic tech questions about FCP or what have you. Dorks.
So do your worst, people!!! Join FRAMEWORKS and stir up shit.
It's a high volume list, so I'm warning you. I haven't paid attention to it in a while, after I got in a massive flame war with a cinematographer over advances in CG tech which will eventually be incorporated into digital cameras.
And no, I don't know of any comparable discussion list solely dedicated to video art. Despite the noxious objections of film fascists, in fact the two media are more similar than they are different. This fact is borne out by the fact that there is *no need* for a discussion list for avant garde video art. FRAMEWORKS serves quite nicely.

You can't be too academic if you can't even spell it.

hey have you seen this site? jon cates just sent this thru on the frameworks list. for those of you who are craving more, here is kinda a repost, without the framework-specific introduction:
criticalartware Version.3.1415926535 which introduces liken,
the new substructure of the criticalartware [application/platform].
liken enables deeply interconnected, decentralized, personalized +
collaborative discourse to flourish amongst + intertwined w/our
shared resources (i.e. interviews with ppl involved in the early
moments of Video Art + artware, documents from + by those individuals
+ related connections).
for those of you searching for [serious/playful/engaged/convivial]
[tools/systems/platforms] for discourse on experimental media arts
that involve a [conceptual/code] base, please goto
www.criticalartware.net
create a login + contribute to the growth of these
[communities/discourses]. your [participation/contributions] would be
very welcomed + exciting.
